Speaker: Jennifer Stromsten, Institute for Nuclear Host Communities
Topic: Life after Nuclear Plant Shutdown
The speaker(s) will discuss the local and regional impacts expected from the nuclear plant closures and approaches being contemplated for minimizing the effects from these impacts.

Jennifer will summarize observations on national trends which are changing due to a combination of age, operating costs, and market conditions and will outline closure experiences of host communities. She will discuss the introduction of a new business model for decommissioning using performance based contracts, and the potential sale of Entergy’s Vermont Yankee to Northstar.

 About the Speaker: Jen is the SeVEDS (South Eastern Vermont Development Strategies) Project Specialist. Prior to joining the staff, Jen did grant-writing and research for BDCC, centered mainly on funding programs to mitigate the social and economic impacts of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant closure.). She is the Program Director Institute for nuclear host communities focusing on the methods available to improve nuclear closure responses, and the potential for state and federal legislative partnerships to enhance planning for socioeconomic losses and impact mitigation

Education: Master of Regional Planning from UMass Amhers
B.A. Brown University
