Niagara-Finger Lakes Section of the American Nuclear Society
Welcome to the Niagara-Finger Lakes Section ANS website! Covering most of upstate New York, our section hosts members at numerous nuclear generating facilities and educational institutes. We actively seek involvement in our local communities by working with school districts, colleges, scouts, and many other entities which share our interest in nuclear science and technology. R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, Nine Mile Point Units 1 and 2, and the James Fitzpatrick Nuclear Plant all reside within our region, giving us wide-ranging access to nuclear specialization and experience.
Our Mission
The Niagara-Finger Lakes Section of ANS is committed to active engagement of our local communities, education of both teachers and students, professional development of our membership, and fostering an environment whereby nuclear power shall remain an active force in our national economy.
About ANS
The American Nuclear Society (ANS) is a not-for-profit, international, scientific and educational organization. It was established by a group of individuals who recognized the need to unify the professional activities within the various fields of nuclear science and technology. December 11, 1954, marks the Society’s historic beginning at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. ANS has since developed a diverse membership composed of approximately 11,000 engineers, scientists, administrators, and educators representing 1,600 plus corporations, educational institutions, and government agencies. It is governed by four officers and a board of directors elected by the membership.
