Senior Vice President of WPI Tuesday September 23, 2003 - Innsbrook Technical Center, Glen Allen, VA Directions The Evolving Fate of the "Ghost Fleet" in the James River and the NS Savannah, An Overview of Nuclear Power Plant Decommissioning Programs, and Some Observations on Virginia's Nuclear Economy. Mr. Stouky will review the status of the James River Reserve Fleet, including the 100 plus non-nuclear 50-plus-year-old ships, the Army nuclear barge STURGIS, and the Nuclear Ship (NS) SAVANNAH. He will discuss the decommissioning programs currently in-progress and the possible benefits of reevaluating the cost of nuclear plant decommissioning in light of current experience. Jon will also make some brief comments about the "Virginia Nuclear Economy" and the possibility of renewing nuclear engineering education in Virginia. Jon Stouky is currently a Senior Vice President of WPI, an affiliate company of Virginia Tech and the Manager of the Energy Group headquartered in Richmond. He has worked in the commercial and government based nuclear industry for 42 years, starting with reactor operations at Vallecitos and the NS SAVANNAH, and proceeding through several well known employers as a manager and Vice president/President. These have included US Ecology, NUS Corp, Stone & Webster Power Cutting, Inc.and Quadrex. He is well known for his work in decommissioning, spent fuel management and remote technology development. Mr. Stouky is President of Mega-Tech Services, Inc. a decommissioning tool and remote applications supplier. | ||||||||
