Preparing for the Perfect Storm
Gerald T. "Jerry" Bischof is Site Vice President-Surry Power Station with Dominion. A 1981 graduate of Virginia Tech with a B.S. degree in civil engineering, Bischof earned his master's degree in systems engineering from Virginia Tech. He joined Dominion in 1981 as an assistant engineer in the Power Station Engineering & Construction Department. From 1988 to 1996, he held various engineering leadership positions at North Anna Power Station.
Bischof was named Manager-Design Engineering for Nuclear in 1996, and in 2000, he became Project Manager-Configuration Management. From 2001 to 2004, he was Director-Nuclear Engineering, responsible for engineering groups assigned to North Anna and Surry Power stations. In 2005, he became Director-Nuclear Safety & Licensing at North Anna. He became Vice President-Nuclear Engineering in July 2006 and Site Vice President-Surry Power Station in September 2008.
A licensed professional engineer in Virginia, Bischof earned his senior reactor operator knowledge certification at North Anna and is a graduate of the Senior Nuclear Plant Managers program at the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations. He served as Dominion's Nuclear Power Council representative at the Electric Power Research Institute and currently serves on the Industrial Advisory Board for Virginia Commonwealth University's Mechanical Engineering Department. Jerry and his wife, Karen, have two children and live in Richmond.
