Please RSVP by noon, March 15, to klgoluoglu@mse.ufl.edu.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Florida Local Section Presents:<\/p>\n<p>John Erinc, Principal Engineer DC&amp;IS Platform &amp; Standards<br \/>\nWestinghouse Electric Company<br \/>\nTitle: Why Probabilistic Risk Analysis is Necessary?<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Erinc is a Principal Engineer for Westinghouse Electric Company, specializing in reliability engineering for nuclear automation. His primary expertise in providing analysis on nuclear automation hardware and software using the various tools available for reliability, and facilitating people and organizations from standards to implementation of analysis techniques. This discussion will review the benefits of PRA and how lessons learned will benefit the AP-1000.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Erinc is currently a member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ), ASQ Pittsburgh Section. He is an active participant in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) working groups on reliability for hardware and software. He specifically contributes to Working Group 3.3 (IEEE Guide for General Principles of Reliability Analysis of Nuclear Power Generating Station Safety Systems) and Working Group 6.4 (IEEE Standard Criteria for Programmable Digital Devices in Safety Systems of Nuclear Power Generating Station.)<br \/>\nFlorida Local Section March Dinner March 17, 2015<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Florida Local Section January Dinner Jan. 14, 2015&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>The ANS FL local section is happy to announce our first section dinner meeting of 2015. To celebrate National Nuclear Science week, the ANS-FL local section will be hosting a session from 4:00 to 5:30 pm showcasing career options surrounding nuclear science. High school students and teachers are welcome and encouraged to attend! At 5:30 there will be a meet-and-greet session for high school students. The ANS Florida Local Section is undergoing a revitalization effort with support from ANS National, and we are delighted to have an exciting dinner meeting lined up for our first event<\/p>\n<p>We are honored to have Dr. Peter Lyons as the special guest speaker. Dr. Lyons is currently the Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy. As Assistant Secretary, Dr. Lyons is responsible for all programs and activities of the Office of Nuclear Energy under the Department of Energy. Dr. Lyons has many years of technical, policy and regulatory experience in the nuclear field and is a strong and consistent proponent of STEM education.<br \/>\nThis dinner meeting will coincide with the semi ? annual meeting of Integrated Research Project (IRP) Fuel Aging in Storage and Transportation (FAST), and will provide an opportunity to meet with this research team. The semi-annual meeting includes six university partners with multiple investigators from each university, as well as supporting advisors from Savanna River National Laboratory and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, with Korea, Spain and potentially EDF (France) sending observers.<br \/>\nIn addition to this technical program and networking opportunity, the ANS Florida has invited Ms. Simona de Silvestro to attend the dinner. Ms. Silvestro is known for being an IndyCar driver, but more importantly, she is the spokesperson for the Nuclear Clean Air Energy campaign. Among the many goals of the Nuclear Clean Air Energy campaign is to generate visibility for the nuclear clean air energy message through national educational outreach efforts as well as through individual and organizational professional activities. Ms. Silvestro is also a strong proponent of STEM education and outreach among high school and college students.<br \/>\nWe are very honored to be able to offer such a strong technical and networking program for this first dinner meeting of the new Florida section, and to have two strong proponents of STEM education with such diverse backgrounds. As our section is in revitalization, we are in the midst of reaching out to previous members as well as inviting new members to the section; please forward this meeting announcement to anyone you believe would be interested in the section.
