In September 2005, the IRS recognized the MI-ANS as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable group. Therefore, any donations made to the MI-ANS are considered tax deductible, per the appropriate IRS guidelines. The MI-ANS will provide a letter acknowledging donations greater than $100. Otherwise, your PayPal receipt should be printed and retained as your record of donation.
Scholarship Fund
The MI-ANS awards a single undergraduate scholarship each academic year to support a student pursuing a nuclear-related education (nuclear engineering, power, medical, health physics, etc.) at a Michigan based school. At this time the award amount is set at $1000; however, we have invested our current assets in an effort to create an endowed scholarship. Donations to the scholarship fund will only be used for the scholarship program, either directly to the awardee or indirectly via investment (federally insured CD)and growth. Our ultimate goal is to grow our investment to enable us to increase the amount of the annual scholarship.
Outreach Program
The MI-ANS supports a variety of outreach activities aimed at disseminating factual information regarding nuclear science and the use of nuclear technologies in our world. Recent outreach activities have included exhibit booths and workshops at local science teacher association meetings and classroom presentations directly to students. Donations to the outreach program fund will directly support the fees for participation in these activities as well as the development of materials that are provided to teachers and students free of charge.
