Topic:
America’s Energy Challenge: Why the U.S. Needs Nuclear Power

Abstract:
Nuclear science and technology has had an enormous impact in providing for the public good. With the growing demand for energy that has a minimal effect on the environment, nuclear energy represents one of the key ways to provide electrical power at any time of the day and at a competitive cost.  Just as important it provides the US with a large-scale carbon-neutral power source domestically, enhancing our energy security.  Nuclear power in the US remains safe, and we are enhancing the protections against extreme natural events.  And most importantly, the first new generation of reactors since the 1980’s are now being built in the Southeast in a predictable and cost-effective manner.  This talk investigated the key reasons we need to maintain nuclear power as an option for the US.
