The congressionally chartered National Atomic Museum is currently working toward the development of a new and expanded museum under the name of the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History. The museum presents the impact of nuclear energy on history and science in an unbiased form. The museum will move into it's permanently location in Albuquerque in the fall of 2008. Since May 2002, the museum has been temporarily located in the old REI building at 1905 Mountain Road NW in Old Town Albuquerque.
New exhibits will include the unique ENGINEERit! Lab, an exciting science learning environment about engineering, math and exploration. Nuclear Medicine, Energy Encounter, The Atomic Universe, Secret Southwest, Space in the Nuclear Age and Waging Peace will help to round out the exhibit floor. The new museum will continue to offer outreach programs such as the popular Summer Science Camp.
