The ANS NorCal conducts extensive educational outreach in conjunction with other local organizations. We support the K-12 curriculum via the science teacher workshops at UC Berkeley/LBNL’s ALS and ETEC (LLNL’s Teller Symposium), a wonderful experience for teachers that provides them with material matching California’s K-12 standards and an opportunity to interact with leading LLNL and LBNL scientists.
ANS NorCal supports high school students via college scholarships for continued studies in fields of science and engineering. ANS NorCal also supports college science and engineering students via the local ANS student chapter at UC Berkeley, including tours of LLNL, and the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. The ANS NorCal Section is extremely grateful to the late Dr. Teller for his personal interactions with college students during these tours and book signings, encouraging them to pursue careers in nuclear science and at LLNL. The ANS NorCal strongly encourages the involvement of students in conferences related to nuclear science and technology, and we have provided supported for ANS student conferences in conjunction with UC Berkeley. Additionally, we support local female students through the Expand Your Horizons (EYH) Science Fair.
